Day 11 - Gross Water

Day 11 - Sunday, May 6
Hwy 74 (151.3) to Fobes Saddle (166.3)
Miles today - 15

Thanks again to Tarzan and Little Steps for the trail magic. I had an omelette and watermelon for breakfast. The hiking today was awesome. Easily my favorite section so far. The trail climbed through an area littered with massive boulders and rock outcrops. And trees!

We made our way up to a high ridge and followed it for most of the day. Down to the east were views of Palm Springs and/or Palm Desert.

There were a ton of lizards today. I probably saw close to 100 of them.

There were no water sources on the trail since we were high atop a ridge, so we dropped down a side trail to Eagle Spring. It was 1/4 mile off-trail and really steep and rocky. When we got there it was just a trough with nasty brown water with dead insects floating around. Luckily I carry a filter. Wampus and Zen only had chemical treatment, so I filtered water for them as well. They were really thankful.

Everybody is camped here at Fobes Saddle tonight because there's a big climb coming up and nobody wanted to tackle it at the end of the day. Tomorrow we're all heading into town. I think we're all looking forward to showers, laundry, and beds. This has been a long stretch without any rest.

  1. You're looking great, Spike; I can tell that you're really enjoying the PCT in spite of the many challenges you've faced!
