Day 15 - Never Ending Descent

Day 15 - Thursday, May 10
Black Mountain (190.4) to Ziggy and the Bear (210.9)
Miles today - 20.5

Today we descended 6,400 feet in 17 miles all the way back down into the desert. We could see where we had to go, but the descent was so gradual and contoured all over the place, it felt like it went on forever. It was really frustrating.

Once down in the desert it was baking hot and there was an unenjoyable slog across a few miles of sand to where the trail passes under I-10.

At the underpass was trail magic, a cooler of ice cold sodas! That might have been the best Mountain Dew I've ever had!

Shortly after that we arrived at trail angels Ziggy and the Bear's house. We were each given a seat in the shade and a tub of hot water to soak our feet. We had hot dogs and salad for dinner and a heaping bowl of ice cream for dessert. Another great end to a hard day.

There are a lot of hikers sleeping in the yard. I'm going to get up at 2:15 am to hike with Magellan and Laura. It's supposed to be really hot tomorrow, so we'll get as many miles done as we can in the dark.
